Scotland Day3

Today we had an early start as we headed off to Glasgow. We arrived at the science museum and watched a short film about The Arctic at the largest imax screen in Scotland. It was huge!
Then we had a wander around the very interesting museum playing with all the interactive bits and pieces.
After lunch we then headed to Hampden Court where we had an exciting tour around the grounds. Including a penalty shoot out to see who had the most powerful shot. The winner of this out of all the people from England, Poland, France and Turkey was ...Ben.
This meant that Ben got to lead his team out of the tunnel onto the pitch followed by holding the winning cup.
Another great day in Scotland. Despite it being a day of loosing cameras. However they were all found again.
Tomorrow we are off to Edinburgh.
Keep your eyes peeled to see what we get up to.

A few pictures from the past few days, we have been busy!

Day 3

France - Day 2

An early start and after breakfast we headed off to the Citadel War Memorial.  We looked at symbolism within the cemetery, the gravestones, the tomb of the unknown soldier and the inscriptions of those who lost their lives in World War I.  The children were very respectful and made mature and thoughtful observations about what they saw.
A short drive to Arras city centre to visit the beautifully ornate Town Hall.  At first sight we thought it was a church due to its architecture.  We learnt about the features of the different buildings and the period they were built in.  We headed underground into the chalk quarries.  We learnt why so many of the buildings in Arras were built from chalk and saw first hand where the chalk came from.  The quarries were then organised into a warren of tunnels that housed 26,000 British soldiers who used them to prepare for a surprise attack to reclaim Arras.

Town Hall of Arras

After lunch and a play on the local playground we went up to Vimy Ridge to look at the World War I trenches of the British and the Germans.  The 'no mans land' between the two armies was as little as 20 metres in some places!

Just a short trip to the most magnificent memorial we have seen!  The Vimy Ridge Memorial stood 37 metres high and comemorates the 60,000 Canadian soldiers who lost their lives during WWI.  The walls are engraved with the names of 11,285 men whos bodies were never found at Vimy Ridge.  It was constructed in 1928-1936 and the beautiful architecture is breathtaking.

Day 1 and 2 Scotland at last

Hi! We are all safe and sound in Scotland, with a long 3 hour train journey. At Carlisle we dashed across the brigde and a tonne of steps!!! Followed by one person not being able to indentify their suitcase, we finally made it into Dumfries! We walked over to our hotel The Cairndale and unpacked. We then headed off to explore Dumfries and discovered an awesome play park! There was a zipwire, swings, a four seater roundabout which was so fun!!!! We then came back and had some great news that we could go in the pool(yyyyyyaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!) There was a really luxurious jacuzzi!!

Later in the evening we went into the hotel's restaurant and had a yummy chicken dinner followed by ice cream with a wafer. We then found a very big room where we played a varity of games such as: SPLAT!, tongue murder, musical chairs and sleeping lions. Then we were off to bed at quarter past nine (not!)

The next day the teachers knocked on our doors and woke us up at 7:30 and all of us were already awake!! We quickly got dressed and ready for the day ahead, breakfast, well what a breakfast! We think Luke could have got the world record for eating the most croissantes... 13! Once our tummys were full we headed off to the Lockerbie Primary where we had a warm welcome from all the people in the school. With singing, dancing and performing by all pupils all ages.

We had a lovely lunch and then went over to Lockerbies town hall where we had fish and chips! Followed by an energetic time Scottish dancing! When we returned to the hotel we were tired from a long day of playing in parks and dancing and so on. But we still managed to played some more games in the games room with the French and now we are off up to bed.

See you tomorrow when we will have more exciting things to tell you!
