Year 6 Residential to Winmarleigh Hall 31.10.12

DAY ONE

The coach journey was long and tiring. When we eventually got here we were amazed at the old looking building. We then hurried to the games room where we put our suitcases and played on the equipment.

The games room is really cool because it has a football table, which engrossed the boys and some of the girls. The table tennis table attracted a lot of us willing to have a game. We lost the initial table tennis ball on the first game!

When we had all finished in the games room we had a choice of different types of delicious pasta.

It started to rain (very heavily!) as soon as we finished our lunch; Mr Perry said we still had to go out into the unknown!

Group A - the Quails first when to Jacobs Ladder which was very challenging. Maddision Davies was the person to get the highest, well done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

  

Group B - the Rabbits instead were off to the gigantic swing which produced the most deafening screams from unlucky victims. Most people went right to the top which was as big as 20 Mr Perry’s. Although some people didn’t go to the top they pushed themselves to the limit!

 

 

After we all had conquered our nerves the very wet and cold party shivered to the zip wire. Maddision Humberstone was the first person to take on the death defying zip wire. The zip wire was very high and even though some people wanted to have a go they just couldn’t push themselves. After everyone had a go we all were freezing and ready to have a shower!

 

We are all looking forward to our Halloween disco and what tomorrow brings!

Harvest Festival

Today was our Harvest Festival Assembly and there was the most magnificent display of fresh produce, presented in beautifully decorated boxes.  Our children had spent a lot of time making their donation look delightful, and these boxes will be delivered to Senior Citizens in the Shavington and Crewe area.  Thank you to everyone who was kind and thoughtful and donated to the local community.

       

Curriculum Afternoon

Today was our curriculum afternoon and it was lovely to see so many parents and grandparents in school to help their children be creative.

Reception children had a theme of Teddy bears.  They made collages of teddy bears that they had drawn, and used different textures of materials.  The playdo was a favourite, imprinting their names into the dough.  It was also an opportunity to make invitiations to The Teddy Bear's Party which is being held next week. 

Year 1's activitites were all linked to Fairytales and Fairyland.  They made collages of fairytales using different materials.  There were Fairyland stories to watch and learn on the computers, and Mrs Gibbs did a book review on Fairy stories.

Year 2 created a cannon for a Spanish Armada ship.  They also sorted animals into different categories using branching trees to distinquish key facts, for example: Does the animal fly?  Would you find this animal in water?  Construction materials were used to investigate how wheels work.

Year 3 had to find the differences between Greece and Great Britain, for example , the temperature, the buildings etc.  They then produced their work in their topic books.

Year 4 designed their covers for their topic books.  A picture was drawn and then collaged with small squares of coloured paper to look like Roman mosaics.

Year 5 did a science investigation to find out the effects of exercise on pulse rate.

Year 6 made collages of significant environmental symbols using recycled material.

 

Model Olympians!

Year 5 had a visiting artist, Faith Bebbington, who came into school to produce some amazing sculptures in a unique way.  Our theme was the Olympians and Paralympians, and we started the day with some wire, sheets of newspaper, duck tape and coloured tape.
Everyone had to decide on the sport that they would like to recreate with their athlete.  We then had to think about the country that the athlete was from to enable us to pick the correct colours for their country's flag.
We started off with a framework of wire moulded into the shape of a stick man.  This was then covered in scrunched up newspaper to form the body shape.  Next the whole structure was wrapped in duck tape to form a solid 3D shape.
The coloured tape was then used to identify specific parts of the model.  For example, Usain Bolt wore black shorts, a green vest with a yellow stripe to represent his country Jamaica.
Some children then went on to create a paralympic champion, making their models to show the support the Paralympians required, to help them achieve their very best.
